Attention all Star Trek fans, a.k.a. Trekkies! Are you ready to explore more strange new worlds? Ready to join the crew of the Starship Enterprise as they seek out new life and civilizations? To “boldly go where no man has gone before?” Can you hear the Star Trek TV series music right now?

No true Trekkie would answer anything but YES to those questions (from the TV intro), and well they should, for the 13th installment in the Star Trek franchise and third in this series,“Star Trek Beyond” is out of this world — but then, you could have guessed that, right?! The newly released “Star Trek Beyond” has our names written all over it — actually, it will be enjoyed by everyone who sees it, but those of us who are attached, shall we say, to the crew of the Starship Enterprise, this movie is like coming home — sort of.

Writers Simon Pegg (returning in the role of Montgomery “Scotty” Scott) and Doug Jung truly captured the personalities of the characters in the dialogue, even going so far as to use phraseology the TV series characters were known for. Example: Doc ”Bones” to Kirk: “Damn it Jim! I'm a doctor not a pilot! (or fill in whatever else Kirk is asking Bones to do that has nothing whatsoever to do with medicine); Spock's famed “highly illogical” and “fascinating.”

The great one line “banter” between Capt. James T. Kirk and Spock,“Bones” McCoy the doc, and Spock, Scotty and Kirk … everyone really, is perfect. And speaking of perfect, these actors actually look as though they could have been the younger versions of the original cast – and they have the mannerisms of the original beloved characters. See, it's the personalities of these characters that have endeared them to so many of us.

In addition to Pegg reprising his role as Scotty, Chris Pine is still divine as Capt. James T. (for Tiberius) Kirk, Zachary Quinto is highly fascinating as Spock, and Karl Urban as Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy who has so many great lines in this film … he kills it. And he'll kill you too — in a humorous kind of way.

Sofia Boutellais is all intensity and skill as Jayla, the alien warrior who saves Spock and Bones. And Idris Elba as Krall is as badass an alien foe as any that ever crossed paths with our Federation heroes.

On this mission to rescue the crew of another planet the request of their captain, the U.S.S. Enterprise isn't headed for somewhere no man has been before, (they think they are) but darn few of 'em!

Krall is a very angry “beekeeper” of sorts. He's a marauder who attacks space and star ships, takes the crew to his godforsaken planet — talk about a “final frontier” — and drains them of their life force. You see he's in search of … well, no spoilers this time!

This installment has a new director, Justin Lin, who directed four of the “Fast & Furious” films. Lin is a man knows action. Lin is teamed up with photographer/cinematographer Stephen F. Windon. Absolutely stunning visuals await you.

Yorktown is a star base settlement in this 23rd century version of life (just to give you the time frame). Human beings, still representing multiple races, and aliens from across the universe live together there, members of the Federation of Planets. Did I mention that Yorktown is located at the end of Federation space out there?  It looks like a world encased in a transparent sphere onscreen. But fabulous. And inspiring.

My friend Les Martin, a Trekkie if ever there was one — and wearing one of his Star Trek T's — said the film was “an excellent tribute to the original Star Trek series” and that “the characters were done exactly like the originals.”

“’Star Trek Beyond’ is a good blend of human spirit and technology that gives hope for the future of the human race, which was Gene Roddenberry's idea for Star Trek, hope for humankind in the future.”

The story line, characters, action, visual effects, costumes, makeup … you've gotta see this!
