Run for an office in Boothbay

Tue, 02/20/2018 - 3:30pm

Dear Editor:

Unlike Boothbay Harbor, the town of Boothbay doesn’t advertise when nomination papers are ready for any resident interested in being elected to a town officer position. As a Boothbay Selectman, I’m writing to be sure that citizens know they have ample time to qualify as candidates for the following positions in Boothbay:

Two Selectmen’s seats

One Trustee of the B-B.H. Community School District

One Member of the B-B.H. Superintending School Committee

One Trustee of the B.H. Cemetery District

One Trustee for the B.R. Water District

The completed nomination papers must be returned to the town clerk’s office (in the town office) on or before 4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 8. This due date is less forgiving than that of Boothbay Harbor (which gives its residents until March 20), yet our Boothbay citizens have ample time to complete the papers if they focus on the task.

Towns are best served if their elected leaders represent the diverse interests of their citizenry. I encourage anyone interested in serving in Boothbay’s government, regardless of his or her prior experience, to run for office. You’ll help your fellow citizens deal with the future as it unfolds. You need only go to the town office and ask for nomination papers, then complete them and get them back by March 8.

I look forward to seeing your names on the ballot this spring.

Kristina Ford
