Robert Paul Sedzia, 87, of Hudson, Mass., died peacefully at home on January 18, 2014.

Bob was the devoted husband of Esther F. (Gorecki) Sedzia for 58 years.

He was born in Buffalo, N.Y. on June 29, 1926 to Paul Peter Sedzia and Stephania Lottie (Muszynski) Sedzia.

He grew up in Buffalo, and lived in West Seneca and Grand Island, N.Y. for many years prior to moving to Sudbury, Mass., where Bob and Esther raised their family. He served in Germany in World War II as a member of “The Greatest Generation.”

He was a resident of Sudbury for 45 years and a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church. Bob worked for Sylvania (GTE) both in Buffalo and in Needham, Mass., for 35 years, in his career as a procurement manager. He retired in 1988.

He spent many, many, fun-filled summers at the couple's home on West Harbor Pond in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. He enjoyed swimming in the “crick” as he called it, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He liked to stop by the Library Lawn to hear the band play and drive along Ocean Point with Esther to take in the spectacular sunsets.

Bob touched many lives with his honesty and determined nature. He always placed family first in everything that he did. He would never say no to anyone who needed help and always had time to talk.

He had a love of gardening, particularly fruit trees and roses. He also enjoyed music. In his later years, he often liked to watch and listen to opera and classical violin. Early in his retirement, he was passionate about making it to weekly cribbage games at the Sudbury Senior Center.

He leaves behind his wife Esther; his children, Karen (Sedzia) Lyons and her husband Robert of Wayland, Mass.; Kim (Sedzia) Palli and her husband William of Yarmouth, Maine; Paul S. Sedzia and his wife Lucia of Southborough, Mass.; and Gail (Sedzia) Monique and her husband Mark of Framingham, Mass.; his sister, Rosemarie D’Arcy of Uncasville, Conn.; nephew Dr. Christopher D’Arcy, his wife Victoria and their children, Cyrus and Alessandra of Mystic, Conn.

He was a loving grandfather to 12: Adam Lyons and his wife Anne, Nicole, Christopher, Russell and Eric Lyons; Margarita, Vlad and Hunter Palli; Andrew Sedzia; and Cory, Ryan and Abby Monique. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Angelina and Timothy Lyons.

Lastly, he loved his many family dogs over his lifetime, including Sparky, D.J., Max, Daisy, Scout, Rockie, Shadow, Shane, Reba, Rebel, Harley and Frank.

His family is eternally grateful to the many healthcare providers who were there toward the end of Bob's life. His caregiver Moses was a blessing to the family, providing gentle, compassionate and faithful care to Bob over the last three months.

Bob's funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Sudbury at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 24. Visiting hours will be held at the Duckett Funeral Home at 656 Boston Post Road in Sudbury, Mass. on Thursday, Jan. 23 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.

A celebration of life in the summer in Boothbay Harbor will be announced at a later date.
