Retail stores, marine lumber supplies, housing coming to Route 27 property

There will soon be some new retail stores, a marine lumber supply business, storage units and housing on Route 27, just north of Hammond Lumber Co. in Boothbay Harbor.

The property, formerly the site of Harbor Motor Court, has been purchased by Seascape Investments LLC and Seascape Construction LLC. It includes two commercial properties totaling 18 acres, and 500 feet of road frontage.

According to Peter Ripley, who is acting as agent and property manager, Seascape Investments LLC owns the front parcel, where plans are underway for three buildings: One will be leased for retail and will contain space for two or three tenants; two more buildings, for warehousing and distribution of top quality marine lumber, will be built at the back of the lot. The types of lumber sold will include mahogany, coastal western red cedar, Douglas fir, and teak. Engineered lumber and building components will also be for sale.

Space for heated boat storage will be available for local boat builders, boatyards and marinas. The buildings will all feature a traditional New England coastal design and will be energy-efficient and versatile, with large overhangs, shingled roofs, clapboard siding, and granite foundation sills, Ripley said in a news release.

The adjacent 12-acre parcel, toward the back of the property, is owned by Seascape Construction LLC. The land abuts the Boothbay Harbor Country Club golf course, and plans are in the works for single-family residential lots that can be connected to town water and sewer.

Ripley said the owners of the Seascape companies have New England roots and own a year-round home in East Boothbay. They have been involved with high-end commercial and residential construction for over 40 years, and involved with the manufacture of high grade lumber components for marine vessels and national museums. The Seascape companies’ owners provided Western red cedar and coastal Douglas fir to Hodgdon Yachts, Inc. of East Boothbay for three cold-mold constructions of Hodgdon's super yachts — Liberty, Antonisa and Scheherazade.

“The Seascape LLCs' owners are excited to work with the town of Boothbay Harbor to develop these properties,” Ripley said. He said Eric Marden Builders has been retained for the project; local contractors will be used.
