Public access to Edgecomb rivers
Dear Editor:
I feel there is increased interest in public access to the rivers in Edgecomb.
Five hundred and twelve residents, including a number of absentee voters who did not see my petition, cast votes on Tuesday. I easily collected 110 signatures from voters passing my petition table during the day. Many encouraging comments including, that we have all this shore frontage in Edgecomb and not a piece of suitable public access.
Less than half our residents have the access that is available to private owners.
A perfect example of those that have and those that have not. I love going out from my wife’s dock. Luckily my wife is a have thanks to her insightful Dad who secured a deeded write-of-way to the stone pier and ledge on the Cross River.
I think everyone should have access to our public waters.
We need to keep putting the boat excise tax into the Woodend investment account to have funds available when a small piece of shore property becomes available. My vision is a small lot with a parking area, a picnic area, a small seasonal dock and with some kind of bathroom facilities. If a lot is purchased, there are grant funds available to design and improve a site for public access.
Please continue vote to add the boat excise tax the Woodend boat access fund and look for a possible lot and keep the selectmen looking.
