Pantry is appreciative

Wed, 09/16/2015 - 8:45am

Dear Editor:

The St. Philip’s Help Yourself Shelf Food Pantry volunteers wish to extend gratitude to those who contribute to its mission of offering provisions for the food insecure seeking our aid. There are many individuals, too numerous to mention, and often anonymous, who provide supplies and monetary support. Thank you.

Both Hannafords, of Damariscotta and Boothbay Harbor, as well as Shaw’s of Wiscasset, need particular recognition for their continued and steady support. Big Al Cohen deserves gratitude for providing items that are distributed to the schools for snack time stuffs. Freedom Fellowship and the Congregational Churches of Wiscasset, as well as the Wiscasset Female Charitable Society, the Midcoast Federal Credit Union, the First, those donating their bottles to the bin at the transfer station, Chewonki Foundation, and the Wiscasset Senior Center, all need to be singled out for their generous contributions toward helping to ease the situation of the area’s neediest with their time, talents, and treasure. Again, thank you.

The support of these and others are necessary to accommodate the ever-increasing numbers seeking the help of local food pantries. If any wish to donate to St. Philip’s effort, please send those donations to the Help Yourself Shelf, c/o St. Philip’s Church, 12 Hodge St., Wiscasset, ME 04578. If there are those who would like to become involved in the day-to-day functioning of the the pantry, please contact the Church at 882-7184, leaving a message with a return number.

For those in need of supplies, the Shelf is open each Thursday at 5 p.m. It is important for people to arrive by 4:30 p.m. to sign up and to examine the options available for choosing beginning at 5. Any needing emergency food should call the church at 207-882-7184, and someone will be in touch.
