Ocean Point Column: So long summer, anniversaries and more

September has certainly gone by quickly and it’s hard to believe that Ocean Point is coming to a close for many of us who rely on seasonal water. In just a few short weeks (Thursday Oct. 20) the Water District will begin water shut off at 7 a.m.

Weather wise it has been one of the best seasons ever with many sunny days and incredible blazing sunsets.

Marilyn and Chris Ross were here vacationing and commented on how fortunate they were to be able to enjoy the outstanding weather their entire visit.

Several weeks ago you may recall that TIsh and Tom McGonegal celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at Ocean Point with family and friends. This past Sunday they extended their celebration by attending a mass at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Boston by Cardinal Sean O’Malley for couples celebrating their silver and golden anniversaries. All couples attending had the opportunity to renew their vows. Tish and Tom enjoyed having their family there to witness the exchange of vows and enjoy brunch later that day.

Jean and John Webster celebrated their 60th high school reunion from Boothbay Region High School, class of 1956. The festivities began with a round of mini golf and then dinner at Brown Bros. sharing photos and memories with classmates.

The Gardens A Glow Banner is on display in the center of town as a reminder that this event is not to be missed. If you did not have the opportunity to attend the light show last year start planning now as the Botanical Garden had record crowds and is expecting the same this year.

Many of the local restaurants will remain open during the Gardens A Glow to accommodate the anticipated large crowds; Harborside Tavern which is co-owned by Ocean Pointer Fiona Dunlap is panning on serving until mid December.

Bob Frazer, longtime Ocean Pointer, passed away on Sept. 16. Bob and his family vacationed each summer in what is currently the Hamblett cottage. Bob spent most of his life at Ocean Point and the Boothbay area. Bob was active in community affairs especially the Boothbay Civic Association as well as many other varied interests. Throughout his life he had a great love for the Red Sox, Maine and, of course, Ocean Point. We extend our sincerest condolences to Bob’s 12 children, 23 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren and to his sister Barbara Heacock.

Have a great week!
