letter to the editor

Not heroes

Tue, 06/06/2017 - 11:30am

Dear Editor:

Thank you Munro "Butch" Dodge for all your support (Letters, May 25).

I would take exception that "all who wear dog tags are heroes." Myself and all my brothers, our fathers and grandfathers wore dog tags and to a man never said to themselves, "heroes." We did our jobs the best we could defending this nation. We are just common people, like the millions who have gone before us and the millions of us who will follow, an all-volunteer Army

The heroes are the police, firefighters, EMTs, teachers who enter the breach everyday, never knowing what the day will bring. No, Butch, I wore dog tags but was not a hero. The person who gives up an organ to save the life of another is a hero. The two men who recently went to the aide of a teenager because she wore a Jihad headscarf and died are heroes.

Again Butch, thanks for the support and the letter.

Hit 'em long and straight and break 70.
