New Damariscotta bistro aims for 'good, fresh food'

A new restaurant will aim to bring fresh food to the Twin Villages.

Van Lloyd's Bistro is expected to open in mid-June in Damariscotta and offer an evolving menu among other items, co-owner August DeLisle said. Van Lloyd's will occupy the building on Taco Alley abutting the municipal parking lot.

“We're aiming for a flexible menu with the focus being simply good food,” he said. “We'll have a full-time baker, so we're going to have fresh bread and sweet pastries.

“It will be a place where people can come in, relax — a very calm space.”

It won't just be pastries and new menu items; DeLisle said the espresso beans will be locally-sourced and as fresh as can be.

DeLisle said once the bistro is open he will move to a front-of-house position with his father, Bernie DeLisle, working in the back of the house and Torie Van Horne will handle baking goods.

“This will be my first restaurant,” August DeLisle said. “But, I do have experience (in restaurants), mainly in Portland, and my dad has been involved with restaurants for 35 years.”

DeLisle said that if everything goes well in the first summer they might think about keeping the Bistro open into the offseason.

Once open, Van Lloyd's will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. with some events pushing the closing time later. The Bistro will be open six days a week, while closed on Sundays.
