Artist Lynne Seitzer has completed 12 luminous paintings titled “Shelter II; Emotional Landscapes.” These new works are a continued exploration of her original Shelter series.

The paintings depict a sense of vast expansiveness. They accomplish this by exaggerating the scale of earth to sky. There is a simplicity to the compositions and yet the paint application creates wonderful complexities. The vague scenes feel familiar; like rhythms held in ones memory they strike a harmonious chord in the viewer’s eye.

She mixes oil color alla prima (directly on the surface) and applies it with painting knives. This active application yields rich vibrant colors. Some of which are tonally quite soothing while others feel highly energized.

“I believe this process allows more heart and less structure mind to come through onto the canvas,” Seitzer said.

“Shelter II” will be on view at Joy To The Wind Gallery for the month of September. An artist reception on Friday, Sept. 5 from 7-9 p.m. in conjunction with the First Friday Art Tour.

The gallery is located at 34 Atlantic Avenue in Boothbay Harbor.
