Loves Livestrong program

Dear Editor:

I see from a recent article in this newspaper that the Boothbay Region YMCA is offering the Livestrong program again. I participated in this program last fall, and I highly recommend it for anyone who has ever had cancer (no matter how long ago), undergone cancer treatments, or is still in treatment. The program is designed to gently help you get back on your feet or back in shape. The staff were incredibly supportive and knowledgeable, and helped us find activities to meet our own particular needs and abilities (or lack of abilities).

They introduced us to all the facilities at the Y, including the therapy pool, weight machines, bikes, cardio equipment, track, floor exercises and stretching, art therapy, and more, and then helped us to do whatever we wanted to do, at our own individual pace. They also provided expert guest speakers on a number of useful topics.

It was like having a personal trainer for 12 weeks, and it was free and you don’t have to be a member and you don’t have to be young or in good shape already. It’s not too late to sign up, just call the Y at 207-633-2855 or email ceason@brymca.org.
