Top 10 Boothbay Region High School academic senior Lisa Pawlowski is heading to Husson University this fall. She will study business and marketing and run track. Pawlowski, a Boothbay native, became interested in exploring a marketing career after participating in a mentoring program last summer. She spent the summer taking photographs and updating the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens’ website.

“It all appealed to me so that’s why I chose marketing and business,” she said. “But four years from now I’m still not sure what I’ll be doing.”

Pawlowski chose the private business school in Bangor after being recruited by the university’s athletic department. She met with Husson University track team officials during a recruiting visit to Bangor. Once Pawlowski arrived on campus, she knew Husson University was the right choice.

“I immediately fell in love with it,” she said. “It’s a real nice community and seems to have everything I was looking for.”

Pawlowski has prepared herself for the college workload by taking five Advanced Placement courses in the past two years. In 2015, she took AB calculus, history, and history. This year, she took BC calculus and literature.

Pawlowski believes she excelled academically because of Boothbay Region High School’s challenging curriculum and encouraging staff. She would often seek out teachers during her homeroom period for guidance in her studies.

“The school makes it easy to motivate yourself through the staff’s willingness to help you. They’re all really inviting people and it helped by talking to them and taking their guidance,” Pawlowski said.

During her high school years, Pawlowski participated on the track and field, soccer and math teams. She is also a passionate Brazilian Jiu Jitsu student. She began studying the martial art five years ago. She describes it as a cross between wrestling and Judo.

“It’s just a lot of fun,” Pawlowski said. “There is a dojo near my house. There are some amazing people with a lot of great backgrounds.”

She is the daughter of Mary Pawlowski.
