Learn CPR, get creative, and more at Adult Ed

The week of Nov. 7 at Boothbay Region Adult Ed features classes where you can uncork your creativity, improve your skills using Microsoft Excel, or learn about Shamanism, which is the about being connected with nature and yourself.

Come learn the ways of divining information that our ancestors used in this two evening class on Nov. 7 and 14. The Shamanic Journey is a tool to access information from spirit helpers. Tina D'Amore will talk about shamanic history,and how it has been practiced by ancient people on every continent. Add personal power to your life and make well-informed decisions Tina has a decade of experience in shamanism and other healing modalities. The class meets from 6 to 8 p.m. and the fee is $24.

On Tuesday, Nov. 8, join Jen Field for a fun, creative glass painting class. Pick from a variety of beautiful designs and paint a wine glass or mug. Choose colors, and paint wispy branches, a seasonal design, or your own design. Jen will provide instructions on how to "bake" your wine glass or mug at home so it is waterproof. Give it as a unique gift or keep for yourself. The time is 6 to 8 p.m. and the fee of $21, includes all supplies.

Do you use Excel and want to become more proficient? Adult Ed is offering three one evening classes. The first is on Tuesday, Nov. 8 about using Excel as a database for a membership list or or business clients. Learn to analyze data and merge it with Word to send out a letter. On Nov. 10 you can learn to turn your data into useful charts and graphs. The third class is on Nov. 15 and will focus several of the most commonly-used functions that can make easy work of your spreadsheet calculations and set up. Each class costs $15 and meets from 6 to 8 p.m. You should have experience using Excel.

In CPR and First Aid, taught by a certified instructor, participants will learn to perform CPR, recognize signs of and how to care for breathing emergencies and choking. What defibrillation is and how it works, precautions to take when using an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) for all age groups - adult, children and infants. The first aid component includes signals of common sudden illnesses, how to care for them, controlling bleeding, musculoskeletal, soft tissue and other injuries. This class meets from 6 to 9 p.m. on Nov. 9 and 16, and the fee is $75.
