Another one bites the dust, as the Boothbay Region Elementary School Lady Wildcats won for the 14th straight time, 50-33, Feb. 5 against Nobleboro in Boothbay Harbor. Boothbay Region Coach Allison Crocker said her team has worked hard all season and focused on beating Nobleboro this season. “They’ve worked hard throughout their basketball careers and were prepared for this. It feels good to beat the team which eliminated us last year,” she said.

The Lady Wildcats led by 10 in the second quarter before a late Nobleboro rally cut the deficit to three at halftime. Crocker used a variety of defenses before settling on a 2-3 zone. “We were focused on No. 5 and began with a box-and-one defense. We moved to a 2-3 zone which slowed down her drives and clogged up the lane,” Crocker said.

On offense, Boothbay struggled in the first half to score, but as the game progressed baskets began to fall. “The shots weren’t falling in the beginning, but we did a good job driving to the hoop,” Crocker said. Eleanor Erwin led the team with 23 points. Other Lady Wildcat scorers were Xavi Hall, 10; Moriah Smith, eight; Arabella Hodgdon, five; and Zuri Smith and Olivia Hardwick, two each.

Boothbay advances to the Southern Division championship and hosts South Bristol at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7 at the elementary school gymnasium.
