Keep it green

Tue, 06/17/2014 - 1:00pm

Dear Editor:

As a member of the Boothbay Region Garden Club and the president of The Garden Club Federation of Maine, I join with fellow gardeners who work diligently in their communities to support the National Garden Clubs Conservation Pledge: “I pledge to protect and conserve the natural resources of the planet earth and promise to promote education so we may become caretakers of our air, water, forest, land and wildlife.”

It is with this pledge in mind that we work to save green space that benefits each and every one of us. Now that the old tennis courts have been removed, the selectmen of Boothbay Harbor have a wonderful opportunity to create green space that will not only help beautify our area, provide a lovely backdrop to the Blue Star Memorial Marker, but most of all, will help to protect our air, water, forest, land and wildlife. Selectmen please say no to another impervious surface and yes to green space.
