Hot Diggity Dog Day supports Spectrum Generations

Mon, 08/17/2015 - 11:15am

Take advantage of the lovely summer weather to stop by Sully's Extraordinary Dogs Food Cart at the corner of Pump and Main Street in Newcastle (across from the Savings Banks of Maine's Newcastle location) on Aug. 20 between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. (rain date, Aug. 27). Purchase a hot dog or one of its cousins with all of the fixings for your lunch. A percentage of the day's proceeds will benefit the programs (Meals on Wheels), services (Aging and Disability Resource Counseling) and activities (Senior Fitness, Aging in Place Symposium) offered by Spectrum Generations Coastal Community Center, your Area Agency on Aging and Aging and Disability Resource Center.

Make Aug. 20 a hot day day where you work, play or relax.

On Aug. 20 take orders from your friends and colleagues, call the order in by dialing Sullie at 207-380-9870, so that your lunch will be ready for pick-up when you arrive at his stand in the Oceans Wide parking lot in Newcastle. Beyond natural casing hotdogs and ¼-lb all-beef hot dogs, Sully's Dogs features bratwurst, kielbasa, and the plump and spicy, Georgia Red Hot. Toppings include not only ketchup but five types of mustard, Morse's sauerkraut, and freshly chopped onions.

In addition to donating a percentage of the day's income, there will be a donation jug at Sully's Food Cart for customers to make voluntary extra donations in support of Spectrum Generations Meals on Wheels program and our agency's work in promoting life-long learning, health, wellness, nutrition, community engagement and social well-being of all older and disabled adults as well as their families and caregivers along with the Coastal Community Center's commitment to leadership in providing a variety of senior and community friendly settings for residents of Lincoln County and beyond across all generations, to enjoy a healthy meal, stimulating programs, wellness/fitness activities, and social interactions.

Programs and activities at the Spectrum Generations Coastal Community Center, which is located at 521 Main Street in Damariscotta, are designed to make meeting and interacting with others easier, fun and empowering. The Coastal Community Center is a place devoted to living well, healthy choices and being about to stay at home as one ages in place and within ones community: a place where mind sets are challenged, new horizons explored, and each person's individual creativity and contributions to the community are celebrated.

At the Coastal Center age is just a number and getting older means knowing what you want out of life and going for it.
