Frances was born January 1, 1919, the daughter of Ralph Stahl and Madge Stone in North Waldoboro. She and her sister, Olive Sherman Baker were brought up by their grandparents, Dennis and Oradell Stahl in North Waldoboro and Fessenden and Fannie Stone in Edgecomb. She attended schools in Edgecomb and North Waldoboro, graduating from Lincoln Academy in 1936.

Frances worked in Bath for the United States Navy Sup-Ship, and finally retired to care for her husband.

She enjoyed entertaining her family and friends, as well as gardening, swimming, traveling and spending time with her beloved dogs and cats.

Frances was always known as “Auntie.”  She loved spending time with her niece, Dawn and grandniece, Lora, at their beauty salon in Boothbay Harbor. She also held the distinction of being Bremen’s oldest resident, receiving the Boston Cane.

Almost two years ago, “Auntie” became a great-great-grandaunt to Jameson Brooks, who was born and still battling with brain cancer. She said he was a “keeper” and he is proving her right.

“Auntie” is survived by her niece, Dawn Gilbert and husband Shannon of Boothbay; nephews, Charles Scott Sherman and wife Diane of Rockwell, N.C., and Robert Sherman and wife Julie of Bowdoinham; grandnieces, Dawna Hannan of Greene, Lora Rinow of Edgecomb, Shawna Sherman of Seattle, Wash., and Candy Sherman of Florida; grandnephews, Charles Gilbert of Boothbay, Nick Sherman of Durham, N.C. and Scott and Michael Sherman of Florida; granddaughter, Elizabeth Cook of Charlotte, N.C.;  great-grandnephews, Justin Brooks of Boothbay and Kevin Brooks of Boothbay Harbor; great-great-grandniece, Nikki Brooks of Boothbay Harbor; great-great-grandnephew, Jameson Brooks, great-great-grandniece, Jade Blair of Boothba; and adopted “nieces” Lucille Pendleton of Boothbay and Patty Grant of Edgecomb.
