Fishin’ for Fashion just keeps gettin’ better!

The third annual Fishin' for Fashion Show was a huge success.

On Sept. 10, models, 37 in all, made their way up the ramp at Rocktide Inn after being dropped off from boats. They were decked out in fashions fit for a New York City runway.

The models represented 11 local merchants and 11 local designers. The fashion sense displayed in their outfits was nothing short of brilliant in its originality and style.

The show began with the Slicks twins, Adele and Andy Bielli, dressed as warriors in costumes they designed and created themselves, complete with staffs, and shell and starfish adorned helmets with horns, and chest plates.

They led the procession of models, walking slowly to the opening scene-soundtrack of Jaws.

Host and MC for the third year, Michael Maxim, introduced the identical twins with this: “We are warriors from the native island of Bora Bora Boothbay. Our mission is crustacean elimination. We worship the bottom dweller called the True Lobster. We are thieves in the night. We are nocturnal. You might find us at low tide on a midnight shore, or we might be standing under the moonlight at your back door.”

Entrants this year for Original Designs made from fishing and marine materials were: Slicks, Benedict/Andrews Designs, Paulette Carter, Team Cola, Tobi Nevers, Christine DeTroy, Drift on Island, Moses/Perkins, Team Della & Suzi Jones!, Sandra Barry, and Team Calypso.

Local Merchants entrants were: Two Salty Dogs Pet Outfitters, The Loft & Gretchen's Closet, The Jewelry Boutique, House of Logan, Boothbay Harbor Framers, The Village Store, Slicks, Calypso, Sadie Green’s, Janson's, and The Finest Kind.

Models were: Andy and Adele Bielli (the Warriors), Olivia Paolillo (Benedict/Andrews Designs), Liana Kingsbury with pups Max and Auggie (Two Salty Dogs Pet Outfitters), Paige Brown and Hannah Cola (The Loft & Gretchen's Closet), Sierra Murray (Paulette Carter), Tali Gosselin and Paige Botts (The Jewelry Boutique), Regan Cola (Team Cola), Lauren and Bar Clarke (House of Logan), Emma Leonard (Tobi Nevers), Chelsea Bragg and Carrie Langlois (Boothbay Harbor Framers), Lilith Perry (Christine DeTroy), Chelsea Combrink (Drift on Island), Debbie Watson, Peggy Pinkham and Stacey Laird (Slicks), Angie Perkins (Moses/Perkins), Deanna Clarkson, Ashley Ward-Andreasen and Zachary Bickford (Calypso), Kathleen Sheehan (Team Calypso), Rianna Heino and Summer Chamberlin (Sadie Green's), Della Hahn (Team Della & Suzi Jones!), Jacob Leonard and Emma Rideout (Janson's), Catherine Tracy (Sandra Barry), and Molly Thibault and Clay Combrink (The Finest Kind).

“Each year it keeps getting better and better,” Maxim said. “I thought the materials used were incredible. The designers, each year, get inspired by designs from previous years and they keep upping their game. I love being a part of it.

“What's so great about it is that it's a combination and a collaboration of designers, merchants and models. I can't wait for next year.”

Dana Paolillo, from East Boothbay and Spruce Point Inn, organized the event, start to finish. “We highlighted outstanding fashions from merchants in town and original designs from some very talented artists,” she said. “The original designers truly stepped it up this year. I was amazed before the show when I was writing out the descriptions that the materials were so vastly different between each designer. I couldn't wait for the show to see how these designs would turn out and I was not disappointed! I already have three calls for next year from original designers that can't wait to get started on their designs.”

Artists from the 'Stroke of Art' event were on the scene painting their takes on the show. Awards presented were: Judges Award: Drift on Island; People's Choice Award: Team Calypso; Best Local Designer: Sandra Barry; Best Materials: Tobi Nevers.

All proceeds go to Project Graduation and the Harbor Fest festival.

Next year's Fishin' for Fashion is already in the planning stages. “We've already talked about new ideas for next year,” Maxim said. “It's so much fun, and they do such a great job.”
