On Tuesday, Sept. 16, beginning at 4 p.m., a celebration of 40 extraordinary years of the Holocaust and Human Rights Center (HHRC) of Maine will be held. The experience will include cocktails, awards and recognitions, a silent auction, book signing, dinner, dancing, live music, and a master of ceremonies. The event is being held at The Woodlands, 39 Woods Road in Falmouth.  

It will begin with cocktails on the patio for reconnecting and sharing memories. During a brief program, we will honor a few people who built and sustained the mission and work of the HHRC through decades of challenges and change—and hear from our 2025 Recipient of the Gerda Haas Award for Excellence in Human Rights Education and Leadership, Maulian Bryant, Executive Director of the Wabanaki Alliance. Student award recipient Kelly Malcolm will read excerpts from her essay, “Why the Holocaust Still Matters,” and recipient Braydan Benton will be recognized for his one-person performance on the Americans with Disabilities Act. Photographer Jack Montgomery will hold a book signing of his new book entitled, "From the Holocaust to Maine: Testimonies of Survivors."

Throughout this anniversary year, we have been paying tribute to the visionaries who brought the HHRC to life. We have created a Timeline, developed community educational programs, curated four provocative art exhibits, gathered community for heartfelt conversations, and are looking forward to a spectacular 40th Anniversary Gala.

We’re honored to welcome many of our original founders: Holocaust survivors, former directors, past award recipients, and longtime friends of the HHRC.
