Boothbay wants you!
Think you got what it takes to be an elected official for the town of Boothbay? Nomination papers are now available for residents at the Boothbay Town Office. If you think you or someone you know is interested in running for a position, stop by the Boothbay Town Office and see Town Clerk Bonnie Lewis.
The following openings are up at Town Meeting on May 5:
Two Boothbay Selectmen seats are open that are currently held by Selectmen Douglas Burnham and Stephen Ham. Of the two, only Ham has submitted papers so far. The position is a 3-year term. The Boothbay Selectman is probably one of the most exciting positions on the peninsula. As a representative of the people, you’re guaranteed a front row ticket to all the important, and at times downright controversial, decision-making that takes place every two weeks. Those wary of the public spotlight need not apply.
Boothbay-Boothbay Harbor Community School District Board of Trustees. The position is a 3-year term currently held by Tyler Hodgdon. Superintendent Eileen King reports every month to this board, which gets to decide how the school budget is spent and facilities are maintained. From school security systems to outdoor tennis courts, there is always something happening in the school district.
Boothbay-Boothbay Harbor School Committee. A 3-year term is open that is currently served by Brian Blethen. This is another great opportunity to hang out and get involved with local educators, administrators and parents, and make decisions based on what’s best for our students and school district.
Trustee of the Boothbay-Boothbay Harbor Cemetery District. The term is three years, and it’s currently held by Lorraine Hodgdon.
Boothbay Region Water District Board of Trustees. Another 3-year term, currently held by Mark Carter. Just like the name suggests, these meeting aren’t dry and boring, but fascinating! Imagine controlling the most important natural resource in the region, and figuring out how to make the future of the Boothbay region better. Big things are happening this year in this district, plus you get to hang out with District Manager Jon Ziegra.
Sure, most people think it’s a cake walk, but important policies that affect us all are constantly being implemented in local government, and now you can directly be a part of it.
Nomination papers are due no later than March 21 at 4:30 p.m. An applicant must collect at least 25 signatures from registered Boothbay voters. May 5 is election day and voting hours will be between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. at the Boothbay Town Office at 1011 Wiscasset Road in Boothbay.
