Boothbay Region Lions Club

Our Boothbay Region Lions club took a two-month, well-deserved summer break. We may have had a break from club meetings but our Lions kept busy during the summer.

Lions John Perreault and Paul Greenleaf installed our newly donated gas range and hood. Many thanks to them and to Lion Lynn Perreault for cleaning our well-loved clubhouse.

Lions could be seen at Set For Success where 35 children were screened for vision problems. Two of those children were referred for further testing. Special thanks to Marcia Soler and Griffin Yereance for preparing the snack bags that were given to those children after their eye exam.

Many remember King Brud and his hot dog wagon. Brud was also a Lions member so it was only fitting our members sold hot dogs at the recent Firemen’s Convention. This turned out to be a great fundraiser for our club with proceeds going to local charities we support.

Lions are especially known for helping those with vision and diabetes. Over the summer several local citizens were assisted with eyeglasses for a total of $1,200 going out to those individuals.

Our first meeting of the year brought 25 members out for a delicious meal and fellowship. But along with that went approval to support monetarily LifeFlight of Maine, the Iris Network and Camp Kieve 7th grade students. A donation to Lions International for Hurricanes Harvey and Irma support will be sent as well.

It’s easy to be a Lion ... Just ask! We meet on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month at 6:15 p.m. (come early for social hour). It’s already proving to be a great year with new King Lion Ken F-Fitch urging us on! See you on Sept. 27.
