Boothbay girls win, boys second at Camden

Sam Russ of Great Salt Bay ran another perfect race last Thursday, Sept. 18 at the Camden-Rockport meet with a time of 13:14 over the 2.15-mile course, but this time Boothbay Region Elementary School's Blake Erhard moved closer to him and placed second with a time of 13:21.

Both runners are a thrill to watch as they get stronger and stronger as the season progresses.

Following Erhard for Boothbay were: Rowan Kristan 14:35, Chris Hamblett 15:00, Will Labrecque 15:06, Tim Chappelle 15:08, Jonathan Genrich 15:09, Will Perkins 15:16, Bayly Gaughan, 16:22, Kaleb Ames 16:29, Jamie LaBrecque 16:48, Ethan Barter 16:56, Mason Erhard 16:57 and Mitchell Partner (21:21).

Boys team scores: Camden Rockport (CRMS) 38, BRES 51, Lincolnville 56, GSB 93, Oceanside 129.

The BRES girls team held first place by a four point margin against Camden/Rockport. Boothbay scored 36 points with CRMS scoring 40 and Lincolnville 50 points. Augusta Stockman of Camden/Rockport came in first place with a new course record of 13:47 followed by Faith Blethen with a time of 14:16, which is actually four seconds faster than the old course record.

The Boothbay girls helping to secure the win were: Glory Blethen (15:09), Rachel Gentry (15:33), Haley Abbott (16:21), Loren Genrich (16:45), Ella Yentsch (17:53), Marissa Peters (19:11), Duyen Nguyen (19:53), Ashley Ames (21:02), Sophie Gudroe (21:41) and Zada Smith (22:34).

“Both BRES teams have been working very hard to improve their times," said Coach Hildy Johnson. "Boothbay continues to prove that they are serious runners with determination. The meets thus far have been very exciting and if you look closely the scores are not too far apart. I know we have to continue to work hard because as we improve and become stronger ... so are the other teams. They are looking to catch Boothbay.”
