The Seahawks opened the 2014 football season with an impressive 35-0 win at Telstar on Saturday, Sept. 13. Starting the season one week later then everybody else, Boothbay scored on its first two possessions of the afternoon.

In the opening drive of the day, quarterback Nick Burge connected with Julian Aponte on a screen pass on the left side that turned into a 42-yard gain. Two plays later Xavier Downing scored from three yards out. Aponte threw to Gabe Purin for the two-point conversion.

After host Telstar picked up one first down before turning the ball over near midfield, the Seahawks went right back to work moving the ball on the ground with another screen pass thrown in before Aponte went the distance on the sixth play of the drive, going 27 yards with still 2:47 left in the first period. An unsuccessful kick attempt left the Seahawks up 14-0.

The visitors were forced to punt on their next possession but would put together another scoring drive late in the second period. Quarterback Nick Kilgus ran 30 yards down the left sideline and then three plays later threw over the middle to Purin for a 19-yard touchdown. The same two hooked up on the conversion to give the Seahawks a 22-0 lead at the break.

After a scoreless third period, Boothbay scored on the first play of the fourth period as Nick Gorey rushed from a yard out. A 32-yard screen pass to Aponte set up the score. Aponte scored his second touchdown of the day on the first play of the next possession, going 52 yards with 9:44 left in the game. Downing kicked the extra-point for the final score. Antonio Maulolo led a great defensive effort for the Seahawks with a pair of quarterback sacks.

The Seahawks will play their home opener on Friday, Sept. 19 when they host Lisbon at 7 p.m. at Sherman Field.
