Bidding a fond farewell to Mary Pinkham

April 1 was Mary Pinkham's last day as the children's librarian at the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library.
Well-wishers were stopping by to wish her the best. Some brought flowers, all brought hugs. She said she had received lots of emails from people who couldn't make it to wish her well in person.
Mary didn't disappoint any who have known her for the 29 years she has lit up the lives of local children and their parents, and dressed up in costumes whenever she could find an excuse to do so. She was dressed to the hilt in a sparkly red-sequined outfit, red high heels and a black and white fascinator. “Goodwill and the thrift shop made this all possible,” she said.
For anyone who missed the opportunity to wish Mary a bon voyage, rest easy. She won't be disappearing from our lives. She'll be working part-time at Sweet Bay, a shop in town, and volunteering in the children's department at the used book store, next to the library.
“It will keep me out of trouble, I think,” she said. I'm not sure though. That chapter is yet to be written.”
