Wed, 05/01/2013 - 9:00am

The Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the return of Artists Alley to the 51st Annual Windjammer Day's roster of unique and exciting things to do during this celebration. On Tuesday, June 25, two streets (Bridge Street and By-Way Street) will be blocked off for this street fair that will be an engaging mixture of viewable works and artists both performing live demonstrations and creating pieces on the spot for the public to enjoy. Many artists have signed up to participate, and there is still room for more.

“This year's Artists Alley is dedicated to the late Jim Taliana, who started the event for the 50th Annual Windjammer Days Festival last year,” said Janet Brennan, Artists Alley chairperson. “I am really excited and honored to help carry on Jim's passion for art at this year's event, and there will be a self-portrait of Jim on display.”

Among the talented artists performing live demonstrations are Allen Bunker, Carlton Plummer and John Seitzer. The CocoVivo Gallery tent will feature many of the gallery’s fine artists. Locally-known artists Margaret Canepa and Nancy Clark will be showing their paintings. There will also be several photographers on hand showing their works, including Carl Jackson, Barry Feero, Jerri Whitman and Barbara LaForte.

Helen Farnham will display her colorful boiled wool hats and scarves, and Joyce Armendaris will have her hand-crafted quilts on display. Barbara Eldred will showing tile clay with children. Laurie Proctor Lefebvre will be doing demonstrations with quick sketches and Susan Henry and Rick Dickinson will be demonstrating with paint.

There are still tent spots and tables available for artists with tents at $40 per spot and tables at $25. If you are interested in participating in Artists Alley, please contact Janet Brennan at janbren@roadrunner.com or 207-380-5548.

The 2013 Windjammer Days is scheduled to take place June 25 and 26, with the schooners appearing in Linekin Bay on Tuesday the 25th and in the harbor on Wednesday the 26th.
