A former Boothbay Town Manager has been charged with indecent exposure and lewdness, stemming from a July 11 incident.

John Anderson, 50, was charged August 16 with indecent exposure and lewdness after allegedly exposing himself to a DirecTV salesman in Derry, N.H., where he is the town manager. A warrant for his arrest was posted August 16.

An affidavit for his arrest states that Anderson exposed himself inside his home to a salesperson on July 11.

The salesperson was making random visits to homes, and stated that when he first approached Anderson's home at 7:15 p.m. July 11, no one answered the door, but that after he walked away an arm appeared to beckon him in, and a voice invited him inside.

Inside, he found a nude man, identified by court documents as Anderson.

The salesperson assumed Anderson had just exited the shower and would soon cover-up, according to the affidavit.

Anderson allegedly told the salesperson that his home was a nudist home, to which the salesperson replied that Anderson was the only one who was naked. The salesperson refused to look at an allegedly nude Anderson while the sales presentation was ongoing.

According to the affidavit, Anderson invited the salesperson to remove his clothes, and invited him back to the house later for a party.

The salesperson left the house and contacted a supervisor who called the police.

When the salesperson was interviewed by police, he stated that he felt he was being solicited for sex and was shocked and traumatized by the event, according to the affidavit.

Anderson was placed on administrative leave July 12, and the Derry town council met August 16 after the arrest warrant was filed to extend the leave.

Anderson had previously been the Boothbay town manager from 2000 to 2010, when he left to become town manager in Derry.

The New Hampshire State Police conducted the investigation to avoid a conflict of interest. Indecent exposure is a Class A misdemeanor.
