On target, on fire, in a zone ... those are just some of the basketball terms to describe a player who makes a lot of shots from outside. Well, that was Kyle Ames Thursday night as Boothbay’s senior point guard broke his own school record by hitting nine three-pointers (his record was eight) at Mt. Abram. Ames scored 29 points and he got a lot of help from his backcourt teammate, Steve Reny, who scored 27 points as the Seahawks improved  to 11-5 with a 78-55 win over the 1-15 Roadrunners.

The Roadrunners stayed with Boothbay the first half, trailing only by three, 37-34, but the Seahawks held them to only nine points in the third quarter. Boothbay led 56-43 heading into the final eight minutes, where they outscored Mt. Abram 18-12 to gain the victory.

Reny had 11 field goals and was five of six from the foul line for his points.

Boothbay also got two three-pointers from Hunter Crocker (nine points) and one from Cameron Crocker for a team total of 12.

Boothbay will host Lisbon on Saturday and Telstar (5:30 p.m., before the girls varsity contest) on Feb. 7.
