Albert Rofe

Albert “Al” Rofe, age 68, of Houston, Texas, passed away on Barters Island on August 6, 2014, after a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer. 

He was born March 8, 1946, in Alexandria, Egypt. He immigrated to Brooklyn, N.Y. in 1958.  He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. The first half of his career he was a stock and commodities broker. In 1985, he joined his father’s business, Rofson Associates, where he remained until his retirement last year. He spent half the year in Houston and the other half on Barters Island.  He enjoyed boating, fishing and spending time with friends.  Maine was his favorite place to be.  He had a zest for life and lived life to the fullest.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Sharon Rofe, daughter, Charette Dersch and her husband Steve Dersch of Dallas, Texas and son, Erik Rofe of Hackettstown, N.J.  He is also survived by his grandchildren, Sloane, Peyton and Sutton Dersch.  Other survivors are his mother, Rachel Rofe of Hallandale, Fla., brother Andre Rofe and wife Valerie of Hong Kong, and brother Rene Rofe and wife Lori of Oakhurst, N.J., nephew Elan Rofe, nieces Alexis Penias, Rachel Rofe, Serena Rofe, Sophia Rofe, and nephew Ethan Rofe.  He is preceded in death by his father, Elie Rofe.

The service was held in Portland on Friday, Aug. 8.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to MD Anderson, Houston, Texas or the American Cancer Society.
