Wiscasset eatery Jodie’s Cafe & Bakery will be hosting a visit from America’s Best Restaurants (ABR) June 16..

America’s Best Restaurants, a national media and marketing company focusing on bringing attention to local, independently owned restaurants, will bring its ABR Roadshow to the restaurant. Popular dishes will be highlighted, along with an extensive on-camera interview with owner Jodie Roquermore about the restaurant’s special place in the community. The episode will be aired extensively on social media channels at a later date.

Roquemore has been baking since age 10, and opening her namesake cafe and bakery has been the realization of a dream. From the South – she moved to the area from Georgia in 2020 –  she has a goal of offering a taste of Southern cooking and hospitality to her guests.

Jodie’s Cafe & Bakery opened on Route One in May 2022, and moved to its present, larger location on Water Street just over a year later. The former Sarah’s Cafe, in business for over four decades, was remodeled and now sports a modern atmosphere with fresh paint and carpet. Striped exterior awnings and a view of the Sheepscot River lend to its charm. 

Using local ingredients as much as possible, Roquemore offers a solid breakfast and lunch menu with such popular items as shrimp and grits, house-made corned beef hash, breakfast burritos and quesadillas, and a bakery case full of cupcakes, donuts, cinnamon rolls and the like. 

Roquemore has built up a nice following for her highly rated cafe, and she enjoys the camaraderie, welcoming atmosphere and support of the area.

“What we’ve built here is like a little family,” she told Wiscasset Newspaper in 2023, referring to not only her staff but the patrons.  “They’re my people now. I love talking with them and getting to know all the people in the community and surrounding communities because we have a lot of people who come from out of town, too.”
