36ers headed back to state American Legion baseball tournament
The Boothbay 36ers had already scored 13 times before Old Town/Orono Twins scored in the fourth inning during their Maine State American Legion preliminary tournament game July 22. Needless to say, Boothbay advanced to the state tournament with a 24-2 victory in Boothbay Harbor. The 36ers will play No. 1 seed Roderick-Crosby (Farmington) 13-1 on Saturday, July 26 at 4:30 p.m. at Mansfield Stadium in Bangor in the state's double elimination tournament.
Boothbay scored nine in the second inning. Four more in the third, and erupted for 11 runs in fourth.
Old Town/Orono scored both of their runs in the fourth inning. The Twins only managed one hit off starting pitcher Liam Jacobs. He pitched three innings, allowed two earned runs, walked two and struck out five. Jacob Watkinson pitched two innings in relief. He allowed no runs, walked two and struck out three.
Boothbay batters hit Old Town/Orono pitching often and hard. The 36ers belted out 17 hits and left five runners on base. Finn Harkins and Shawn Gamage led the charge with three hits each. They both doubled and singled twice. Dom Frisone, Jacobs and Shawn Markowitz doubled. Blade Brann and Watkinson recorded two singles. Frisone singled. Owen Cotta singled twice. Boothbay was aided by four Twin errors. The 36ers only committed one error. Boothbay improves to 9-5. Old Town/Orono advanced in the tournament July 21 with a 5-3 victory over the Kennebec Sturgeons. Boothbay earned a bye and home playoff game. The Twins finished 5-10.
