A 21st century governor

Sun, 10/05/2014 - 1:30pm

Dear Editor:

We cannot move forward in the 21st century economy if we do not make major improvements to our state’s infrastructure. Our roads and bridges are unsafe.

Most of rural Maine remains unconnected to broadband. Cell phone “dead zones” along our major highways and in cities and towns vital to our tourism industry like Bar Harbor impede economic growth.

We need leadership that understands the connection between state-of-the-art infrastructure and a healthy economy.

The LePage administration has refused to borrow federal funds to improve infrastructure when interest rates were at historic lows, and withheld funds from a voter approved $100 million bond measure to invest in infrastructure repairs.

Only Eliot Cutler has outlined a 21-point plan to overhaul the state’s outdated, outmoded infrastructure and attract business to the state of Maine. Eliot Cutler is a 21st century governor with a plan for a 21st century economy.
