The time is coming quickly to be part of a festive evening to benefit the Wiscasset Public Library.  So, mark your calendars for Sunday September 3 from 5 to 7 p.m. for the fourth Bands for Books event, this year featuring the Salty Dogs, a Maine musical group, at a picturesque farm in Wiscasset.

Tickets for the event are $20 ahead of time and $25 at the event itself.  Tickets can be bought at the library at 21 High Street in Wiscasset, or purchased from event committee members -- Michelle Peele, Kate Curran, Cynthia Davis, Judy Flanagan, Katherine Martin-Savage, Wendy Ross, Jenn Spaur, Crissy Swartz, and Linda Winterberg.

You can dance to the music, feast on tasty hors d’oeuvres donated by Sarah’s Café and imbibe at a cash bar.  So why not invite friends to join you at this fun-filled event?

There will also be a silent auction of a museum quality replica of an 18th century Windsor writing desk, handmade by the D.R. Dimes company and valued at $2,400.  In addition, there will be fourteen raffle items including an early Victorian desk ink well set, a two-hour sail on the Sheepscot River on a double-masted sailboat, an hour airplane ride for three over Midcoast Maine, a metal sculpture, a case of wine, a picnic basket filled to the brim with goodies, and a flower arrangement delivered to your door once a month for four months.

Leavitt and Parris of Portland and Marianmade Farm of Wiscasset will provide a large tent under which many of the festivities will take place. Three area banks with branches in Wiscasset -- First National, Camden National and First Federal Savings -- are sponsoring the event along with Ames Hardware, Leavitt and Parris and Ideal PortaJohns.  Other sponsors include Jenn Spaur and Katherine Martin-Savage.

The September party is the Friends of the Library’s largest event of the year and all of the proceeds go to much needed projects to update the Wiscasset Library building, such as new lighting and carpeting. So, mark your calendars, get ready to have some fun, and take home some wonderful items while helping the library.

For more information, call event committee chair Michelle Peele after 5 p.m. on 207-687-8212.
