Waldo After Dark Screens David Cronenberg’s 'The Fly'
The Waldo's newest Waldo After Dark film screens on Saturday, Feb. 21, at 7 p.m. with a special screening celebrating the 40th anniversary of David Cronenberg’s iconic body-horror masterpiece, "The Fly" (1986).
Presented by The Emporium Spooky Goods and More of Bangor, this one-night-only event invites audiences to experience the film that redefined modern horror on the big screen.
When brilliant but eccentric scientist Seth Brundle (Jeff Goldblum) successfully teleports himself, he doesn’t realize a housefly has entered the pod with him triggering a horrifying molecular fusion. What begins as a revolutionary scientific breakthrough spirals into a tragic and stomach-churning transformation, forcing his lover, journalist Veronica Quaife (Geena Davis), to witness the death of the man she loves and the birth of something monstrous: the “Brundlefly.”
Four decades after its release, "The" Fly remains a landmark of body horror and emotional storytelling: a cautionary tale of ambition, decay, and transformation. As the film famously warns: “Be afraid. Be very afraid.”
"The Fly" was originally released in 1958. The American science fiction horror film was directed and produced by Kurt Neumann and distributed by 20th Century Fox.
The Fly has a runtime of 96 minutes and is rated R. The MPAA rating reflects graphic body horror, intense scenes of physical transformation, violence and gore, as well as some moderate sexual content and language.
Doors open at 6 p.m. The film begins promptly at 7. For fans of horror, sci-fi, and cult cinema, Waldo After Dark offers a chance to revisit (or discover!) one of the genre’s most unforgettable films in a theatrical setting.
