Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) recently released its 2026–2028 Work Plan, a three-year blueprint outlining $4.5 billionfor almost 3,000 projects across Maine. The plan includes over $2.3 million of work on the Boothbay peninsula.   

In Boothbay and Boothbay Harbor, the work includes around $1.2 million for a sidewalk project to extend the Route 27 sidewalk for over half a mile. It also includes over $1 million for work in Boothbay Harbor, including road and drainage improvements on Lakeside Drive, and $173,000 in grant-funded working waterfront improvements with Boothbay Harbor Waterfront Preservation.    

In addition to projects, there are planned funds for local road assistance. MaineDOT reported $69,576 for Boothbay, $36,164 for Boothbay Harbor, $37,660 for Edgecomb, and $22,996 for Southport.   

The report also included a summary of 2025 work across the peninsula. As part of routine maintenance, MaineDOT applied almost nine tons of patch and 60 miles of striping, rebuilt nearly 250 feet of shoulder, and added more than 4,200 square feet of painted pavement legends to improve visibility. In addition, MaineDOT said improvements to the Southport bridge over Townsend Gut were finalized, and a culvert was replaced on River Road in Edgecomb.
