Art Tours 2018
“Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.”
― Thomas Merton, “No Man Is an Island”
Where would the world be without the artist?
Through his or her imagination, skill, and curious nature, we experience beauty.
We are extended an invitation ... to explore ... to experience the world through each artist’s eye … it’s an individualized departure from reality that takes us where our imaginations lead us.
Art is food for the soul.
Throughout the summer months into September and early October galleries in the Boothbay region, Wiscasset and the twin villages of Newcastle and Damariscotta hold art walks. Each one has its own variations - special receptions, featured artists, music, dancers, food - with one thing in common: the celebration of art!

In the Boothbay region it all began in 2000, five to eight galleries hosted receptions for an event called Art Along The Avenues. The dates were set up to coincide with the art receptions of the Boothbay Region Art Foundation's show calendar.
This was followed by hosting art tours on the last Friday of each month, known as the “Last Friday Art Tour” but, it was not highly successful.
In 2002, the decision was made to adapt to the nationwide “First Fridays."
Since then, the First Friday Art Tour often has 16 or more galleries participating in the afternoon and evening hours - studios and galleries offer new exhibits, have guest artists on hand, hold demonstrations, art talks and refreshments.
The Boothbay Region Art Foundation serves as an umbrella for the art outreach, education, and opportunity to show artwork in a professional setting.
Art walk/tours in 2018 are on June 1, July 6, Aug. 3, Sept. 7 and Oct. 5

This is the sixth year of the Damariscotta-Newcastle, a.k.a. Twin Villages, ArtWalk held the third Friday of June through September.
From 4-7 p.m., local galleries, studios, craft stores, restaurants and more keep their doors open for shopping and browsing.
This is a free, self-guided event.
The art walk has been organized by an informal coalition of art connoisseurs, business owners, and nonprofit leaders, and has an eclectic range of participants. The villages invite the local community and visitors to enjoy the galleries, artists and artisans, musicians, specialty shops, and restaurants, as well as views of the Damariscotta River.
