Trevett Column: Potluck Aug. 26, firewood raffle and more
We are reminding you that the August potluck will not take place on its usual Wednesday but will instead take place on Saturday, Aug. 26 at 3 p.m. This will be the annual cookout at the hall with BICA providing hamburgers and hot dogs prepared by the now famous Grill Boys. All island folks, new, summer, winter, or year-round, are invited to attend. Come say Hi to your neighbors and meet some new ones. You are asked to bring something to share to go along with the grilled items as well as your beverage of choice. BICA will also have water available.
Gage Sherman of Coastal Property Care has generously donated a cord of wood for a raffle and will also deliver the wood to the Boothbay area. Be sure to get your tickets at the cookout with the winning ticket being drawn at the September potluck. This is an opportunity to warm yourself or to donate to help an island neighbor stay warm.
July’s potluck was great fun for the 45+ folks in attendance. Laura and her crew of Judy, Frosty, Amy, Bruce and Bill did a great job in the kitchen.
Evelyn was excited to announce the fabulous amount raised resulting from a very successful Better Than A Yard Sale. She also extended special thanks to the many folks involved who got together to make the sale so successful as well as a special acknowledgment of the local lobstermen for their contribution of 25 lobsters for the lobster raffle. The raffle was also most successful with the lobsters being won by three sisters from the island. The BICA hall roof repairs are now complete with a nice shiny finish. Thank you all.
Suzanne solicited items for the Auxiliary for the volunteer firefighters and ended up with a big selection of snacks and dollars being donated. The Auxiliary provides these items to the firefighters when they are out fighting fires. Again, thanks for the generosity of many.
After dinner several spirited games of Bingo were played. Paul and Gloria were great number callers keeping the games moving along with winners being treated to prizes. Several players wanted to keep the games going.
Please remember you are welcome to leave your no longer wanted books on the hall window sills where others are free to borrow them.
And, as always, Evelyn (207-380-6977) is happy to answer any questions you may have about BICA, its events or its mission.
