Mid-Coast Audubon field trip to Pemaquid Point

Event has passed

Mid-Coast Audubon will lead a bird watching field trip for birders of all ages and abilities to Pemaquid Point in Bristol on Saturday, Jan. 25. Don Reimer will lead our trip, and we’ll meet at 8 a.m. in the parking lot of the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse. Dress warmly.

Visiting Pemaquid Point is like going out to sea, but without a boat. The peninsula is long and relatively narrow, extending well out in the Atlantic ocean, which explains why it is such a great place for viewing seabirds. From the lighthouse, Common Eiders and Black Guillemots are usually observable. Common Loons, Red-necked and Horned Grebes, and scoters are regular in winter and a King Eider is rare but possible. Besides the normal gull species, Bonaparte’s and Laughing Gulls may be present and Black-legged Kittiwakes are seen occasionally. eBird reports that 126 species have been seen at Pemaquid Point Lighthouse.
