Once again the gingerbread house building season is about to begin in Boothbay Harbor.
The Opera House’s annual Gingerbread Spectacular showcases the confectionery construction talents of everyone from novices to seasoned gingerbread house builders. The Dec. 13-15 weekend is both a community celebration of the holiday season and fun-spirited competition between bakers and designers.
In preparation for the 2019 Gingerbread Spectacular, the Opera House is offering a free class on Wednesday, Nov. 20 in the fine art of designing and building gingerbread houses, and castles. Time tested recipes for strong walls and roofs, sure-to-set icing tricks and design ideas will all be part of the class led by experienced builder, Kevin Kiley. The hour-long class begins at 2:30 p.m.
All ages and skill levels are encouraged to attend this free class, but all are asked to register in advance by calling the Opera House at 633-5159. Children under age 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Gingerbread houses are fun to build alone, or as part of a group, and so is this class. Come by yourself, grab a friend, wrangle your office mates, bring in the neighborhood, and get ready to design and build your entry for this year’s Gingerbread Spectacular. There will be sample houses to construct as part of the class.
Those interested in submitting an entry for this year’s Gingerbread Spectacular may call or visit the Opera House at 86 Townsend Avenue, Boothbay Harbor. Registration forms, noting the competition categories and deadlines for entries, are available at the box office.
Build something sweet this holiday season!
