Inn Along the Way celebrates fall with lawn and barn party

Sat, 09/21/2019 - 8:15am

Music, autumn, fall treats and fundraising converge on Saturday, Oct. 5 at Inn Along the Way located at the Chapman Farm, 741 Main Street in Damariscotta. This Autumn Music Celebration in the Big Red Barn featuring the Rusty Hinges, Damariscotta Region Open Mic, a yard sale, inn tours and hay field walks is a by donation fundraiser for the Inn Along the Way. At IAW, older community members live interdependently in a neighborhood-style setting of small, environmentally friendly homes.

In traditional autumn on the Maine coast style, community members attending the Inn’s musical lawn and barn party and who want to bring your own creative picnic will be surrounded with an eclectic mix of music, song, community fun and laughter. Open mic registration begins at 1 p.m., festivities begin at 1:30 p.m. with open mic performances and run until 4:30 p.m. Bring your blanket and picnic basket, bring family members, neighbors and friends, your instruments, voices, poems and short stories, talents and dancing shoes or just your enthusiasm and listening ear to the Chapman Family Farm. While you are in the barn take a moment to check out the Inn’s yard sale including novelties, vintage furniture and lamps.

The Rusty Hinges, whose performance will begin at 3:15 p.m., are a local Midcoast Maine band, playing an eclectic mix of acoustic music from folk music, from sea shanties to fiddle tunes, oldies to bluegrass and more. Members of the band are: John Couch - guitar, vocals and harmonica; John Monterisi - guitar, singer song writer; Nancy Jones Bridges - the group's leader, organizer and guitar/pennywhistle player; Brian Dunn - mandolin and octave mandolin and banjo, vocalist and sea shanty singer; and Laura Buxton - cello.
