American Legion Post 36

Tue, 09/10/2019 - 12:30pm

On Saturday, Sept. 14, our annual Yard Sale and Craft Fair is being held at the Legion. As of this writing (Monday) the weather predicts a cloudy morning with a chance of showers later in the day. So unless things change radically, the three events will go on as scheduled. But at this time, all indications are that all events will happen on Saturday! The Yard Sale is a fundraiser for our Legion Post to support our programs and the Craft Fair is a fundraiser for the Legion Auxiliary. As of Monday, there is still room for more tables so if interested, call (207) 633-4487 or (207) 315-6272.

Again, the BBQ will happen rain or shine this Saturday, the 14th. Outside if the weather cooperates or inside if not. The doors will be open at 5 p.m. with a suggested donation of $10 for adults and $5 for kids. Ralph Smith of Mine Oysters will be chucking oysters for $1 each. All money raised by the BBQ will support the Sons of the Legion Regional High School student scholarships. Ralph will be serving ribs, pull pork, pulled chicken, coleslaw, potato salad, bake beans and more.

Did you know there is additional parking other than beside the building? The grassy area between the Hall and the storage units beyond the Hall, is all Legion parking. The sign has been there but hiding behind all the shrubs and trees. The shrubs have been removed and the trees trimmed so you can now see the sign. The plan is to have stairs put in to easily get from that parking lot to the Hall. For now, you will need to navigate the slope or walk around the corner. So, there won’t be any necessity to park along the road for any event.

A special thanks to our Legion breakfast set up crew led by our Fran Nicoletta with Ed Harmon and Jeff Keyes assisting. They had to set up at 2 a.m. Sunday morning due to the Hall being rented Saturday evening. And, thanks to all of our breakfast customers! We again went over 100 guests! Your donations help us support all of our Legion programs and, of course, support the Hall maintenance and upkeep. Speaking of that, our last breakfast for the season will be on Oct. 20. We are closing a little early this year because the floor is being replaced and we need to be open again for the Christmas dinner.

The next breakfast will be Sunday, Sept. 22. Spread the word, bring the family, bring your neighbors, make it a community event.
