Sept. 14 is a day to celebrate

Mon, 08/05/2019 - 5:15pm

Dear Editor:

2019 is a huge deal for the American Legion and for our own Charles E. Sherman Jr. Post 36. For the American Legion, its our 100th anniversary. 100 years of advocating for veterans. One success we all know about is the GI Bill! In the Boothbay region, over the years, we have connected literally hundreds of veterans with the VA to receive financial benefits and health care they have earned. And this year we have re-established both the Auxiliary and the Sons of the Legion so it is truly a family organization. So, this is absolutely a great year to celebrate!

On Sept. 14, we are having a day to commemorate this awesome year! And an event to raise the money we need to continue our success. We are starting the day with a Craft Fair in the Legion Hall and at the same time we are having a Yard Sale in our spacious grass area next to the Hall. From 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. there will be wonderful crafts from our area’s artists and creative geniuses and “stuff” in the yard sale where bargains just shouldn’t be missed. At 5 p.m., thanks to the generosity of Ralph Smith, who is donating his talents and skills to cater our first ever BBQ from 5 to 7 p.m. We will have the traditional BBQ items in addition to oysters on the half shell that only can be duplicated at Mine Oysters! And there will be many surprises that you don’t want to miss. So, for the craftspeople and those that want to participate in the Yard Sale (10 feet by 20 feet of grass) just call the Legion at 633-4487 and reserve your space. For everyone else, mark your calendar for Sept. 14 and plan on spending the day with us!
