‘Life Is A Dream’ at Heartwood

One matinee Sunday, June 30 at 3

The masterpiece of Spanish playwright, Pedro Calderón de la Barca, “Life Is A Dream”  is a sophisticated challenge of the type Heartwood likes to take on, with an absolute powerhouse cast.  Audiences can anticipate some of Heartwood’s finest work, in this production.

While Calderon's play is seldom produced, it rests squarely on many best-plays lists, having survived the test of time. The depth of insight, the universality of the characters and their problems, and the language - even removed from its original Spanish, evokes mystery and insight.

Audiences will find this riveting, challenging and well worth the investment of time.  This type of work is rarely available to Midcoast audiences; it’s a summertime event not to be missed. To help provide a glimpse into the show, Heartwood has created a short film clip of cast insights. Video clip at https://vimeo.com/343899654.

The text, adapted by Helen Edmundson, is readily accessible - beautiful, rich and delivered by a very capable cast of local and visiting actors, who bring the depths of passion straight to the audience.
