My thoughts on Tom Minerich

Dear Editor:

Firstly, let me introduce myself. My name is Lindsey Schmieman and my husband is Anton Schmieman. Our family, including our 3 and 4-year-old daughters, moved to Boothbay Harbor in early February from Alabama’s Gulf Coast. My husband was given a position as naval architect for Washburn & Doughty in East Boothbay. We have enjoyed every single day of our new adventure here in this beautiful town!

I was casually chatting with a property manager in Alabama one afternoon prior to our move and expressed to her my concerns of finding a home to lease long-term in a town that primarily saw seasonal leasing. She mentioned that she was from Portland and may have a connection for me! Sure enough, I was put into contact with Tom and Patty Minerich. I immediately felt like they were people I had known for years, instead of ones I had simply exchanged a few emails and phone calls with. They put my mind to ease and have been extraordinarily accommodating to every single residential need/concern my family could possibly have. We are so grateful to know them.

I know that Tom would be an excellent leader for our town. We see him out and about multiple times a week: most recently towing lumber to and from different places, measuring the deck at Brady’s, joking with the sweet ladies at the post office, and several times just stopped to have a friendly conversation with other locals. We see him so often that my girls sometimes spot him first and excitedly shout, “There’s Mr. Tom!” while waving and he is never too busy to chat with them either.

Among his many great characteristics, I know that Tom is an advocate for bettering schools and as a mother of young children who will soon be in the system, he makes me feel more confident and excited for the opportunity to raise them in Boothbay Harbor.
