letter to the editor

Would like to pay my respects

    Dear Editor:

Last fall I stayed at the Five Gables Inn, formerly known at the Forest House, in East Boothbay. I have stayed there numerous times over the years and prior to Norman Linker’s death (the former proprietor) in the 1980s, I had developed a nice friendship with Norman.

Every time I have visited the Boothbay region, I have wanted to pay my respects graveside to Norman. The Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library assisted me on this most recent visit through ancestry.com in determining the date of death sometime in April 1982. I was told since he was a resident of the area for so long, perhaps the newspaper or someone may be able to determine whether or not he is buried (or was cremated) in any of the cemeteries in the region.

It is possible, since he wintered in Chapel Hill, North Carolina that he could have passed away there, but I do not think so. He was born on March 7, 1895.

If the newspaper or someone knows if he is buried in the Boothbay region, I would like to know.

I know that it was a long time ago but the Forest House was a magical place and I know that he had many friends, I being one. I would appreciate any feedback you may provide.
