Winthrop defeats Boothbay again
For the second time this season, the Winthrop Ramblers defeated the Boothbay Region Seahawks, 44-26, on Thursday, Feb. 4 at BRHS.
The Ramblers’ swarming defense caused several Seahawk turnovers throughout the contest and the visiting team took a commanding lead after three quarters, 36-20. Boothbay had stayed close in the first half and trailed by only four points, 20-16, early in the third quarter, but the Ramblers got several breakaway layups and cruised to victory.
Winthrop’s Sage Fortin was the game’s leading scorer with 16 points, including two 3-pointers. Teammate Madison Forgue was nearly as good, scoring 12 points, including two 3-pointers. Maddie Perkins added nine points for the Ramblers.
Jaelyn Crocker led Boothbay with 10 points, followed by Glory Blethen with eight.
In a brief ceremony following the game, Blethen, fellow senior Kylie Brown and manager Marissa Peters were honored for their years of service to the team.
