Where do we turn? To outrage or a power higher than Trump?

    Dear Editor:

Stephen Miller created the plan to take children away from their parents and blame the Democrats to insure it would result in anger and outrage. President Donald Trump, without even asking about negative impacts, signed the document and blamed the Democrats.

Miller knew it wasn’t true, but lies were often his favorite tool for disruption. The problem I see is that it put the president in a peculiar situation. If the president is forced to state what is akin to “The Dems made me do it,” what does that mean? Does that mean the president is not in charge? Does it mean the Democrats are in charge? Does it mean that he was only following the lead of Obama? It certainly could be a viable interpretation if he believes the statements are true. Why didn’t Stephen Miller warn him that outrage would come from the UN Human Rights leaders? Does Stephen Miller seek outrage without concern or care about the president?

Jeff Sessions doesn’t help by erroneously quoting the Bible without its beginning and end of words that require us to love everyone, including our enemy. Imagine looking gleeful about forcibly pulling children away from their parents as young as 3 months old. Would he be gleeful if someone did that with his children?

During World War II, I grew up in Falls Church, Virginia, while my dad worked at the Pentagon. Today the town is full of Latino Catholic immigrants. A new candle is rapidly selling bearing the name “San Miguel,” which promises a sense of protection. It reminds everyone that there is a higher power than the president.

I have lived in Nebraska, Virginia, California, Massachusetts, and today Maine. There are religious buildings everywhere as well as immigrants, but nowhere was it a criminal offense to step on the land of my neighbor when there were no signs to the contrary. Most everyone knows that when there is nowhere else to turn, you can always turn to God. On a candle there is a red-eyed monster candle specifically to ward off “Odio” aka “Hate.” I choose love and a higher power over hate.
