Whale sightings aplenty

My husband and I saw this whale while sailing yesterday afternoon (Sept. 1) between Christmas Cove and Lower Mark Island off of Southport. When I took this picture the whale seemed to be 100 yards off shore. Courtesy of Sharon Fuller

The newspaper has received several photos from our readers of whale sightings during the past week, many of them near Southport Island. The warm waters seem to have drawn them closer to the mainland.
