We need Ken F-Fitch

    Dear Editor:

We are writing to add our enthusiastic support for Ken F-Fitch, who is a candidate for the Select Board of Boothbay Harbor. Ken’s past experience in education (20 years as a teacher) and real estate (17 years as a realtor), his intelligence, his love for this community, and his ability to understand and articulate the essence of any issue, all  suggest he would be an outstanding contributor to the board. But more than that, we have come to know Ken as a person of boundless energy who will do his absolute best to help his community in any way he can. Whether he is tending the ticket booth at Harbor Theater, delivering Meals on Wheels, serving on the Opera House board (and ushering there), working on a Lions Club activity, playing a role as Light Keeper at Burnt Island Light, playing bells and singing in the choir of the Congregational Church, helping at the Food Pantry, working for the Food for Thought program, marching in the Windjammer Days parade wearing his Scottish kilt, Ken is simply the essence of involvement in the Boothbay Harbor community. He could even be designated the town greeter, as he walks several  times daily with his pup, Kiwi, across the footbridge and around town, greeting everyone, and especially stopping to befriend everyone’s dog.

In many conversations with Ken, we have seen his amazing ability to understand all sides of any issue, and to seek ways to resolve controversial ones. He is an insightful creative thinker, skilled at eliciting everyone’s opinions, then always looking for ways to best meet the needs of all. This is not to say he does not take stands; he is honest and forthright and does express his own opinions. But he is an active listener, always open to what others have to say, and always willing to help find solutions, instead of making absolute demands.

It’s hard to imagine anyone better suited to be a productive, positive member of the Select Board. In fact, we feel it would be a loss to the community not to have Ken’s talents working for Boothbay Harbor.
