Waynflete defeats Boothbay, 3-2, to reach regional final
The Waynflete Flyers upset the Boothbay Region Seahawks, 3-2, in the semifinal round of the Class C South tournament on Tuesday, June 3 at BRHS.
The Flyers, a perennial top tennis program, won the first and second singles matches and the first doubles match to move on to the regional championship. Waynflete plays mostly Class A and B schools during the regular season and competes well.
Boothbay suffered its first loss of the season (11-1) after dominating the Mountain Valley Conference. Boothbay was seeded first and Waynflete was seeded fifth in Class C South. Boothbay advanced in the quarterfinal round by defeating Mountain Valley, 5-0, and Waynflete defeated Spruce Mountain, 5-0, to advance.
