Dear Editor:

Vote Democratic to protect the people of Maine and our beautiful state. Don't move Maine backward.

Maine was recognized as one of the top states in the nation for working to mitigate the effects of climate change.  We are considered one of the states that is least likely to experience a natural disaster event.  But if the storm that hit Newfoundland had just been on a little different course we may have experienced a serious weather event.  Climate change is real and frightening. Our boreal forest is more important as the forests of South America and Siberia face emanate destruction. Protecting our forests is essential.

Cameron Reny, running for Senate, a mother of two young children, understands the importance of doing what we can to mitigate and adjust to the changing climate because her children will be adversely effected by it. With her educational and counseling background she will support our schools, teachers and children. And she'll show up!

Holly Stover has shown through her considerable work in the House what a fine legislator she is. Her background in Health and Human Services and considerable knowledge of the process means she will ensure that our
citizens have the health care they deserve. She voted to expand health care to children through the Children's Health Insurance Program providing coverage to an additional 40,000 Maine children.  As a grandmother she also understands the importance of environmental protection for the next generation, and supported initiatives to educate students about the climate crisis, preparing them to address this important issue.

Women's body autonomy is being decimated all over the country. All of our Democratic candidates support a women's right to abortion. This issue is tantamount to women of childbearing age. Those of us in our elder years understand how  anti-choice laws negatively effect women's health.  Right now, across the country, women are being denied life saving medication because of the fear that some medication would act as an abortifacient. Contraception is also in jeopardy.

Truth, congeniality, respect, thoughtfulness, seeing the grey in issues matters. Vote Democratic
